Miami surprise onside kick goes terribly awry against Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech-Miami- Miami Hurricanes

After a sloppy start, the Miami Hurricanes looked to be in good shape after pulling within two points of Georgia Tech at halftime
Saturday. But that’s when coach Mark Richt got a little too greedy and smart for his own good.

To start the second half, Miami tried a surprise onside kick. It couldn’t have gone any worse for the Hurricanes, as Georgia
Tech returned the failed attempt for a touchdown.

Yes, that just happened. Jackets lead 21-13 just seven seconds into second half.

Ironically, that was the very first play immediately after Miami inducted four players into its ring of honor. That was not
a good way to honor their playing careers.

The game is now being stopped for a ceremony to put that kick in the Miami Ring of Dishonor.

With the touchdown return, Georgia Tech leads Miami, 21-13, with about 10 minutes left in the third quarter. The decision
to try a surprise onside kick and the poor execution could result in Miami’s first loss of the season.
