Georgia Tech QB Matthew Jordan out for rest of spring with foot injury

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech junior quarterback Matthew Jordan will miss the rest of the Yellow Jackets’ spring practices because of an foot injury, the program announced on Monday.

Jordan suffered the injury due to a non-contact injury sustained during the Saturday’s intrasquad scrimmage.

“It’s unfortunate that Matthew will miss the rest of the spring but we’re looking forward to getting him back and competing for the starting position as soon as possible,” head coach Paul Johnson said in a statement.

Jordan is the likely starter for the Yellow Jackets under center next season with Justin Thomas now graduated out of the program. In the past two seasons, Jordan was in 14 games. He rushed for 243 yards and six touchdowns in nine games last season.

His first start of his career was the Yellow Jackets’ upset against No. 18 Virginia Tech last season, helping the Jackets to become bowl eligible.

Georgia Tech has three other quarterbacks on its spring roster. Junior TaQuon Marshall has been trying to show he can compete for a starting job over the course of the spring. He appeared in two games last season and had a rushing touchdown. There is also redshirt freshman Lucas Johnson and Jay Jones.

Last season, Georgia Tech finished 9-4 and defeated Kentucky in the TaxSlayer Bowl.
