The urban unemployment rate in China declined to 3.95 percent in the second quarter of 2017 from 3.97 percent in the preceding quarter and reaching the lowest jobless rate since the data collection began in the September quarter 2002. Meantime, from January to June 2017, some 7.35 million new jobs were created in China’s urban areas, up 180 thousand from the same period the prior year. In 2016, the country added 13.14 million jobs. This year, it aims to add another 11 million jobs while maintaining the unemployment rate below 4.5 percent. Unemployment Rate in China averaged 4.12 percent from 2002 until 2017, reaching an all time high of 4.30 percent in the fourth quarter of 2003 and a record low of 3.90 percent in the third quarter of 2002.
